About the Programme

Students in Grades 6 to 8 at Cochin International School follow the Cambridge Lower Secondary programme. The programme offers 10 subjects and focuses on building a strong foundation in the Sciences, English and Mathematics.

In Grade 9, students embark on the next stage of their Cambridge International journey – a two-year in-depth programme with a formal, externally assessed examination at the end of Grade 10. This programme is called the IGCSE.

The International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE)

Cambridge IGCSE is an international curriculum that develops students' skills in creative thinking, enquiry and problem solving, and gives them excellent preparation for the next stage in their education.
Schools can offer any combination of subjects. Each subject is certificated separately. Over 70 subjects are available, offering a variety of routes for learners of different abilities.
Schools worldwide have helped develop Cambridge IGCSE. It incorporates the best in international education for students at this level. It develops in line with changing needs, and is regularly updated and extended. Cambridge IGCSE teachers can draw on excellent resources, training and advice from subject experts

OPEN FOR CHOICE

The Middle School students (Grades 6 to 8) follow the Cambridge curriculum adapted to ensure that the students acquire all the skills they will need to enter the IGCSE in Grade 9.

APTITUDE FOR RESEARCH

The foundation of research-based education begins from early years at COCHINS and the Personal Project Exhibition in Grade 8 is the culmination of research and study for a year by each student on a topic of their choice, be it a new product, art form, visual or performing art, a math or science project, and which adds a new dimension to their learning.

CAMBRIDGE CHECKPOINT

We offer the Cambridge Checkpoint assessment to students of Grade 8. Checkpoint assessments are optional and students may or may not enrol for them. Promotion to Grade 9 is not based on checkpoint results, but checkpoint results it will help us understand their academic standing and prepare them for IGCSE.

ACTIVE LEARNING

Middle School students engage in learning within the classroom and beyond. Educational visits to sites in Kochi and elsewhere in Kerala are going to be a regular feature of the school year.
